Scroll 1.0

Scroll 1.0

It's been a long way from CONF-762 to where are we now, but we are extremely proud to announce Scroll 1.0.

Thanks for all the support we got along the way, to name a few in no particular order: Scott, Sebastian, Alex, Arne, Charles, Martin, Petra, Bob, Dan, Sarah, Giles, David, Roberto, ... Huge thanks also to the people who have beta-tested Scroll and provided great feedback.

The are already a lot of cool features in Scroll, and we are looking forward to add more. High on our list are better theme support (add your own DocBook customization layer) and WordML export.

New Features

  • Support for wiki syntax and documentation-related macros as defined in the Authoring Guide. Let us know if we have missed an important macro.
  • Supported DocBook version is version 5.0.
  • The PDF exporter comes with 2 pre-configured themes (a.k.a. customization layers).
  • I18n for generated text in the PDF export, e.g. headings and generated link texts.
  • {scroll-ignore} macro for excluding contents from being exported.
  • Ignore {toc} and {children} macros and let Scroll generate a table of contents based on the page hierarchy and the headings on the pages instead.

Known Issues

  • The memory consumption of the PDF generator can become quite large for documents with couple hundred pages (we created up to 1.800 pages during testing). We have a fix for that issue, which will be available for 1.0.1.
  • It is not possible to configure the stylesheets for the PDF generation yet. As said above, this is top on our list for 1.1.
  • Tables in the PDF export do have fixed width. This is due to a limitation in the underlying Apache FOP processor. This issue is also very high on our list!
  • The Scroll UI hasn't been tested on IE6. Yet it still may work but it is not supported on IE6. Sorry folks!

Congratulations guys! This is a great add-on for Confluence. I'm sure there will be a lot of technical writers who need this functionality, a la CONF-762.

    Hallo again from Sarah.

The JIRA project doesn't allow anonymous users to add issues, nor does it allow public signup. Is there another preferred way people can log issues and requests?

Currently we are using the developer JIRA provided by Atlassian (we will switch this location soon). They allow public singup here. Another way to report bugs or ask for improvements or new features is described at our website. The short version of the linked website is: feel free to contact the support team anytime directly at support@k15t.com.
